Genetic fortune-telling: Fact or Fiction?
Can we tell which illnesses healthy people may be susceptible to? Can we predict which diseases we're in danger of contracting? And if this becomes possible, what effect will it have on our lives? What are the benefits of knowing? Speakers: Erika Cule, winner of the Daily Telegraph and Bayer Science Writer Awards 2008 (20-28 year-old category) graduated with a first class honours degree in Biochemistry from Imperial College London in 2008, where she is currently studying for an MSc in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Systems Biology as the first year in a four-year PhD programme. Erika's winning essay explores what the future holds and how much we can really learn from our DNA. Her essay, along with those of the other winners, can be found at http://www.science-writer.co.uk/. Dr Theodore Anagnostopoulos, biologist and researcher at the National Centre for Scientific Research Dimokritos, founder of http://www.scico.gr/ and co-founder of the Green Project, will moderate the discussion with the public. The event will be held in English. Admission Free
